Welcome to TheStoryLives

I am very excited to launch this new website!

I’ve been an aspiring writer for several years now and, through the process of developing my craft and learning about the business of writing, I’ve been amazed and impressed by the wealth of knowledge that is so openly shared by so many renowned authors and other experienced professionals.  There is so much information available, in fact, it can be hard to sift through it all to find the best.

I don’t pretend to have found all of the best information, but I’ve found many resources that have been invaluable for me and I feel will be valuable for others.  Through this web site, I plan to share that knowledge so other aspiring authors will have an easier time finding it and hopefully shorten their journey toward becoming published authors.  I will also be sharing my own journey toward publication and the insights I’ve gained through my experiences.

Today I’ve started filling the Writing Resources  page with some of my favorite links.  I’ll be adding a lot of content over the next couple of weeks.

I’m starting with the Writing Excuses  podcast from Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, and Howard Taylor.  I consider this a must-have link for every author.  These three authors share writing knowledge, industry insights, and market analysis with a witty dialogue that is a pleasure to listen to.  I’ve learned more things than I can explain through their podcast and cannot recommend it enough.

Also highly recommended is David Farland’s Daily Kick in the Pants.  David is a long-time NYT bestselling author, and one of the best known mentors for new writers.  His Daily Kick provides unique market analysis as he shares his tremendous wisdom freely.  If you’re not signed up to receive the Daily Kick, you should consider doing so.  David also teaches a series of seminars which are well worth the money.  I’ll be talking about those more in a future post.

Last for today, but definitely not least, is Larry Brooks’ Story Fix, rated # 1 in the Top Ten Blogs for Writers in 2011.  Larry is an author with uniquely clear insights into the craft of writing.  His Story Fix blog is passionate, clear, and positive.  He’s written several books on writing which have changed my writing for the better.  I’ll highlight those in an upcoming post.
