I am thrilled to announce that Saving Face, my Science Fiction / Fantasy novella is now available on Amazon, and will be available within the next couple of days on Barnes & Noble.

Saving Face is the prequel to an alternate history trilogy I am currently working on.  It is also related to a short story I wrote that won honorable mention in the Writers of the Future contest in 2010.

In the near future where the renting of human bodies becomes a reality, Sarah is one of the top-ten most requested donors.  Rich old women pay obscene sums to rent her physical form, but she gets more than a huge salary.  Strange memories slip into her mind from temporary bodies she uses, and she begins to fear she’s losing her identity.

Then Alterego, the company Sarah works for, tries to force her to permanently sell her body to one influential renter.  Faced with her worst nightmare, Sarah struggles to escape before becoming the ultimate orphan, but finds her every effort thwarted.  That’s when she allies with Tomas, a staffer who turns out to be far more than a simple technician.  He reveals that the technology is a sham.  The body transfers are only possible with the aid of an ancient sorcery.  Worse, the rental business is just a cover so the company can harvest human souls, although their ultimate goal is still cloaked in shadow.

Their only chance at freedom is to penetrate into the vault to free the one soul who may hold the power to save them.  But there they discover a more sinister evil, tied to a secret cult that has been lurking in the shadows for millennia.

As they fight to escape the facility alive, Sarah must face an evil none of them are prepared to defeat, one intent on ripping out her soul to fuel its deadly agenda.  In the final, explosive confrontation, they all face questions of identity never before imagined.  Is a person defined by their body, by their mind, or something far less tangible?  The answer to that question might hold the only key to survival.
