I plan to feature interviews with other authors as a regular event on this blog. I love to learn about their works, and I think it’s valuable for my readers to get as much information as possible on other authors and books they might also like.
I’m thrilled to feature author R.R. Virdi as the first guest author I’m interviewing. Ronnie is the Dragon Award-Nominated author of the popular urban fantasy novels, Grave Beginnings and Grave Measures, novels from The Grave Report series.
Q: Hey Ronnie! Thanks for stopping by to do this interview! For readers who aren’t familiar with you, could you tell us a little about yourself?
A: Sure. I’m a young author currently residing in Falls Church Northern Virginia. Yes, the northern part gets tacked on because it’s a particular social thing here. Northern Virginia is its own unique subset of the state blending in with the Washington DC Metropolitan area. I’m a huge automotive enthusiast, ex mechanic, and I used to work in the custom gaming pc industry.
Q: What is Grave Beginnings about, and what do you think is driving its popularity?
A: It’s a paranormal investigator series set in New York about a soul without a body. He’s forced to inhabit the bodies of those killed by the paranormal and use their minds, bodies, skills and memories to solve their murders. The more he does it, the more memories he keeps from the deceased at the cost of his original own. The series begins in media res of him having done this for years to the point he’s forgotten his original identity. So, it’s one part Quantum Leap, dash of Dresden Files with a sprinkling of Memento thrown in with the run around thriller and new person of the week set up of Person of Interest. It’s quite the cocktail.
Q: You’ve also released the second book in the series, Grave Measures. Can you tell us a little what you’re most excited about this book?
A: The second novel helps broaden the world and what the stakes are down the line for the metaplot in the series. It introduces fun new characters and allows me to expand on the mythological and magical lore/worldbuilding inside the series to set up some big dominos down the line I can’t wait to knock down.
Q: What were some of your influences for Grave Beginnings?
A: Dresden Files. Quantum Leap. And a deep seated personal obsession with mythology. I truly love it.
Q: What is the world of The Grave Report like? Are there any other books or shows we’re familiar with that it might resonate with?
A: The world of The Grave Report is an urban fantasy set in New York that you can explore an hour at a time through Vincent Graves (the protagonist) point of view. He has an hourly timer branded into each body, a tattoo that decreases in time by the hour for his case. Yeah, he only has so long in each body to solve the case with in. Talk about pressure. It’s dark, gritty, sprinkled with humor and pop-culture references galore.
Q: One of the things I love is a good quote. Any memorable quotes from the novel you’d like to share?
A: All of the fans seem to love, “Supernatural douche kitty.” I think it’s a winner. J
Q: Where can readers connect with you or find out more about you and your stories?
A: My website. rrvirdi.com or my amazon author page: https://www.amazon.com/R.R.-Virdi/e/B00J9PZ1YW/ref=dp_byline_cont_ebooks_1 or my twitter. @rrvirdi
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions, and good luck with future novels in The Grave Report!
