Short Story – Saving Face

Here’s an update on the statuses of my various writing projects:

  • The Sentinel’s Call – Epic fantasy novel.  The macro story arc covering the rest of the series is complete, and my agent is actively working to land a traditional publishing deal.  The novel is complete and I am very pleased with its current state.  I am optimistic that despite all the transition happening in the traditional publishing market that we can procure a favorable deal.  I can’t wait to see the book out in print.
  • Set In Stone – YA fantasy novel.  The book is complete and in pretty good shape.  I have the manuscript out to several beta readers.  Early responses have been favorable.  Once I hear back from the rest of the beta readers, I will make whatever tweaks are necessary and polish the ms again.  The next step will be to develop a cover for the book and prepare to e-publish it directly to the marketplace later this year.  This will be my foray into the world of e-publishing.
  • I am in the process of plotting out the sequels to both of my completed novels, and expect to write one of them this year.

In the meantime, I am participating in a group project with one of my online writing groups.  Several of us have decided to each write a short story of approximately 15,000 words.  The idea is to produce an anthology with the theme of ‘The Cost of Freedom’ and e-publish it later this year.  This should be a fun project and a great way to gain exposure in the marketplace and learn better the process of getting a book e-published.

My short story is titled ‘Saving Face’.  It is an urban fantasy based on the same setting and magic system I used in another short story I wrote last year titled ‘Face Lift’.  That story received Honorable Mention from the Writers of the Future contest.
