Status update

2012 is gearing up to be a busy, and hopefully productive, year.

It’s off to a good start.  So far, I’ve done the following:

1.  Sequel to The Sentinel’s Call (Working title Flood Tide).  The outline for this sequel is about 90% complete.  I am eager to begin writing after polishing the plan a little more.  This book will be fairly complex as it builds upon the foundation developed in The Sentinel’s Call and plunges Kevlin into deadly intrigue in the heart of the empire.

2.  Set In Stone.  I completed revision 2 and am collecting feedback from beta readers.

3.  LTUE – I attended Life, The Universe, and Everything conference in Orem, UT in February.  Excellent conference.  I met lots of great writers, including members of my writing groups.  The panels were insightful, informational, and productive.  I especially liked the panel on map making and the one on book trailers.  The keynote address by James A Owen, author of Here There Be Dragons, was one of the best inspirational talks I’ve ever heard.

4.  The Sentinel’s Call.  I’ve written about 20,000 words for a new POV thread I am preparing to weave into the existing manuscript to add more depth, intrigue, and insight into the complex world of the Tamerlane Empire.

5.  Short Story.  I wrote a short story for David Farland’s Nightingale writing contest.  It was a great experience for me since I tend to write very long fiction, and short stories with enforced word-count limits are a challenge.

I am currently re-reading The Sentinel’s Call, polishing it further, and looking for the best way to fit in the new POV thread.  When that is complete, I’ll return to Set In Stone for some more editing, and then write Flood Tide.

In my free time, I am planning on e-publishing a short story and a novella that share the same urban fantasy setting, and make them available for free download.
