The Challenge of a Good Title

Readers' Group

Book titles are hard. I mean like banging your head against a wall for a week hard. At least they are for me.

Most of my books have great titles, but they’ve all come after much pain and anguish. Even Set in Stone. That title is so perfect for that book, but I considered and discarded at least a hundred titles first. Then when I was standing in the kitchen with my family, someone said, “Yeah, that’s not set in stone.”

I don’t even remember what we were talking about, but that phrase struck like a bolt of lightning. I shouted, “Nobody move!” And ran into my office to write it down before I forgot.

You’d think choosing titles would get easier, but it hasn’t yet. Maybe some day. Hopefully! I’m agonizing over a title for the fun prequel novella set in the Petralist world. I’m preparing to release it this springtime. It’s the story of Anika, the terrifying Petralist on Captain Ilse’s team earlier in her career when she explored a potential alternate career as a florist! As you can imagine, wonderful chaos ensued.

I’ve narrowed the list down to three potential options. Will you please do me the favor of taking the poll to tell me which of the options you prefer? I really really appreciate it!

The poll has two other questions regarding when and how often members of my Readers’ Group prefer to receive emails. If you’re not yet part of the Readers’ Group, you are welcome to join! You can sign up at: https://mailchi.mp/02a7b7823b23/best-readers-group-ever

Thank you! I appreciate your constant support and enthusiasm. More updates coming soon on the cover reveals and official launch dates for The Queen’s Quarry – Petralist book 5, and Anika’s story.
